Today, the curtains draw to a close on the 11th edition of the Uganda Film Festival (UFF), and the Mediavision team bid farewell to the festival with a special screening of 'Soccer Heart,' a film by Kevin Johns Nabukenya.

'Soccer Heart' tells the relatable story of Sakku, a young man whose passion for soccer was stifled by his father's insistence that he join the family fishing business. But Sakku refused to let his dreams be extinguished, and he defied his father's will to pursue his true calling.

The film is an inspiration to all who have ever had to confront the conflict between their own dreams and the expectations of others. It is a reminder that it is never too late to chase your passions, no matter the obstacles that may arise.

Kevin Nabukenya, a lawyer by profession but a filmmaker by passion, drew upon her own experiences to create 'Soccer Heart.' Her story is a testament to the transformative power of film and its ability to resonate with audiences on a deeply personal level.

'Soccer Heart' has reaped Seven (7) nominations in the UFF2024, and Kevin remains optimistic about the film's chances. However, she emphasizes that she is already grateful for the opportunity to make a film that has touched the hearts of so many.

Kevin, an unsung multi-award-winning Ugandan filmmaker, has etched her mark in the industry since her inception in 2020. The founder of Kjohns Film Production, based in Kampala, has directed and produced an impressive array of feature films in a remarkably short time. Among her notable works are 'Fallen Advocate,' 'Men in Suits,' 'Lala,' and 'The Wave.' Notably, 'My Love from Another Land,' a collaborative effort between Uganda, Nigeria, and the United States, stands as a testament to her international reach.

Kevin's firm dedication to her craft, coupled with her passion for storytelling, is evident in the captivating narratives and stunning visuals that characterize her films. Her ability to garner multiple awards is a testament to her exceptional talent and the impact she has made in the film industry. With a bright future ahead of her, Kevin continues to inspire aspiring filmmakers and captivate audiences with her cinematic masterpieces.

As the UFF2024 draws to a close, we reflect on the incredible local films we have had the privilege of witnessing. These films have showcased the talent, creativity, and diversity of Ugandan filmmakers.

Our thoughts go out to all the filmmakers who have poured their hearts and souls into this festival. We wish them the very best of luck on awards night. And to Uganda Communications commission (UCC), we extend our deepest gratitude for facilitating this incredible platform for Ugandan cinema.

The Mediavision team would like to thank Kevin Nabukenya for sharing her inspiring story through 'Soccer Heart.' Your film will continue to inspire and motivate us all.
