Written by Aloyo Annet, Director of Studies at Mediavision Academy

Today marks the commencement of our five-day ICT and Multimedia training in Arua district.  The training is taking place at Oli division hall in the heart of Arua city.  Arua is a bustling regional trade hub in the far north of Uganda. This initiative is part of the Uganda Communications Universal Service and Access Fund (UCUSAF), implemented through the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).

Initially planned for 100 participants, the overwhelming need and potential in Arua district has prompted us to extend our reach to 130 enthusiastic youth. Participants cover a range of professions including traders, farmers, business owners officer workers, students  etc…   For real like me my biggest dream of all time is to become a journalist and this is my starting point, said Shanitah Hikmah a 19 year old resident of Arua public cell, Aruahiaa division in Arua city. Hikmah is currently doing casual work to save money and pursue a course in journalism.

Our aim is to transform these youth into multi-media users, equipping them with the skills to create content that will promote their products and services for business growth. This comprehensive training covers:

* Graphics designing
* Video editing
* Picture composition
* Photography
* Video recording
* Internet usage
* Entrepreneurial skills

The youths of Arua are eager to learn and embrace these valuable skills. They recognize the transformative power of ICT and the potential it holds for their livelihoods.

We are honored to be partnering with Mediaivision Academy and GRETAK Services LTD to deliver this training. Their expertise and experience in the field will ensure a high-quality learning experience for our participants.

As we embark on this journey, we are confident that these youth will emerge as empowered individuals, capable of leveraging technology to drive positive change in their lives and communities.
