Harriet Amito Lubega's first film 'The Crush' premieres at National Theater

The Ugandan film industry has a new shining star, Harriet Amito Lubega, who recently premiered her first-ever movie, 'The Crush,' at the National Theater on May 8th, 2024. The film, which revolves around a woman's relentless pursuit of love, has already reaped significant attention and praise, particularly for its strong female lead.

'The Crush' tells the story of Zeporah, a woman who is deeply in love with Jefta. Her desperation to win his heart leads her to take drastic measures, including attempting to kill her cousin Lucky, who Jefta also loves. This tragic tale of love, jealousy, and betrayal is a relatable story in many communities, making it a powerful and thought-provoking film.

Mediavision Academy played a crucial role in making the premier of  'The Crush' a success. In his address at the premiere, the founder of Mediavision Academy, Nkambo Robert affirmed their commitment to supporting upcoming filmmakers through capacity building and mentorship. He encouraged females in the industry to challenge themselves by taking on technical roles such as operating cameras, lights, and sound in order to excel in all aspects of the film industry.

As the producer of 'The Crush,' Harriet Amito Lubega faced numerous challenges, including securing the necessary funding for her project. Despite the skepticism and hesitation from potential investors, she persevered and successfully premiered her film. In a heartfelt statement, Harriet expressed her gratitude for the support she received from Mediavision Academy and her determination to continue making a mark in the film industry.
