EMPOWERING PAKWACH: ICT & MULTIMEDIA SKILLING FOR YOUTH TRAINING
In a bid to empower the youth of Pakwach district with digital skills, a 5 days ICT & Multimedia Skilling for the Youth Training commenced on the 2nd ending on 6th of April, 2024, at the council hall. This initiative, aimed at bridging the digital divide, is set to equip participants with essential skills for the digital age, such as content creation, multimedia production, and internet proficiency.
Pakwach district, located in northern Uganda, is a
predominantly rural area with limited access to technology and opportunities
for youth development. The lack of digital skills and knowledge among the youth
has been a major hindrance to their personal and economic growth. However, with
the increasing use of technology in various sectors, it has become imperative
for young people to be digitally literate and have multimedia skills.

The training program, sponsored by Uganda Communications Commission
(UCC) under UCUSAF partnering with Mediavision Academy and Gretak Services
Limited has attracted enthusiastic youths from various backgrounds both in-school
and out-of-school youths, over 100 participants aged between 18-30 years. The diverse
group reflects the growing importance of digital skills in today's world and
the eagerness of Pakwach's youth to embrace these opportunities.
The Guest of honor The Eseru Paul RDC Pakwach Officially opened the

He challenged UCC to also consider those youths who are far from the
training centers and always not stop on giving trainings but also support
youths with hands on equipment to enhance their lives. He also urged UCC to
consider other thematic areas such as oil and gas, tourism, branding,
marketing, online marketing and provide youths with ICT skills implacable to
replace unemployment
He further more advised the youths to change their mindset and use
skills acquired from the training to become job creators like making content
that can generate income instead of complaining that the government has not
supported them
Over the course of the training, participants will engage in hands-on training
and interactive sessions, covering a wide range topics including content
creation, internet usage, Social media management, graphics design, multimedia
editing, and digital marketing. These skills are not only valuable for personal
development but also to fight unemployment and fostering entrepreneurship.
The ICT & Multimedia skilling for youth training is a testament to
the commitment of Pakwach district, UCC and its partners Mediavision Academy
and Gretak Services limited to empower the youth and prepare them for the
digital economy. By providing access to these valuable skills, the program aims
to create a pool of talented individuals who can contribute effectively to the
development of their community and beyond.
