1OTH EDITION OF PEARL INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

 

The 10th Edition of Pearl International Film Festival kicked off with a glamorous opening night at Cinemax 3D, Ham Towers on Tuesday 21st November and on the 25th, invited guests showcased diverse senses of fashion at the award Gala night at Theatre Labonita.



The excitement of being at the top of the filmmaking art in Uganda was seen among winners at the Pearl International Film Festival as 15 nominees walked away with awards in different categories of Best Short Film, documentary, Makeup, costume, sound, editing, cinematography, actor, actress, supporting actor, supporting actress, feature film and best director.

Nkambo Robert, being the chief Jury on behalf of the judges presented a report of selected winners from a list of 75 nominations. The judges included Mariam Ndagire, Osman Matovu and Nkambo Robert the director, Mediavision Academy. “I had the honor to present the biggest award of Best Director to Doreen Mirembe of KafaCoh which also won the best feature Film,” Robert added.

Mediavision Academy was also represented by Aloyo Annet the director of Studies and a team of 10 students, as well as, Nkambo Robert the director Mediavision Academy. The academy has partnered with PIFF over the years by providing beginners workshops and master classes to filmmakers.

In the absence of Magezi Moses the PIFF director, Bonny M Kasujja conveyed greetings from the founder and emphasized the festival’s goal which is Promoting local talent. “The festival aims at bringing talents into spotlight, creating a platform for recognizing and appreciating great performers in the film industry”, Bonny said.

1.     Best Short film – Block by Dean Mani

2.     Best Feature Film – Kafa Coh

3.     Best Documentary – Ateker by Edmond

4.     Best Editor – Katumwa Paul ( Karamoja)

5.     Best Make Up – Joan Nantege (karamoja)

6.     Best Costumes – Joan Nantege ( Karamoja)

7.     Best Production Design – Nana Kagga (Pieces of me)

8.     Best Sound – Pieces of Me ( Kasozi Geofrey)

9.     Best Screenplay – Lusawata Musa and Mirembe Doreen (Kafa Coh)

      Best Cinematography – Izaek Ekuka (The Passenger)

11.                        Best Supporting Actress – Gemin Dushime (The Fallen Advocate)

12.                        Best Supporting Actor – Mulokozi (24 Hours)

13.                        Best Actress – Tania Shakirah Kankindi (Sister’s Keeper)

14.                        Best Actor – Nathan Katongole (The Passenger)

15.                        Best Director – Mirembe Doreeb and Gilbert Lukalia (Kafa Coh)
