“I
love it when I wake up in the morning knowing it is a class day. I keep checking the time to make sure I don’t
miss my online classes” says Eunice Achan.

Eunice is a filmmaker
and founder of Eunika Media Entertainment, a film production company based in
Kitgum Municipality. Her company
specializes in the production of film, TV and animations for the Ugandan and international audience and has been in operation for overs 2 years. She eagerly needs this knowledge to add value
to Eunika’s operations and also achieve her dream of becoming one of Uganda’s
big scriptwriters and producer.
Eunice uses her smart phone to login onto zoom where live classes are provided. The classes run on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday every week. Each session runs for one hour. The subjects of study were carefully selected by a competent curriculum team at Mediavision Academy to ensure that critical areas in filmmaking are well tackled. The course that began at the start of August is ending mid-November. Eunice revealed that the training is fun because it integrates the theory with practice.

Eunice says the course
is expanding her understanding about Culture and Heritage in Uganda. “Mr. Daniel Kaweesi, the Culture and Heritage
tutor is exposing a lot of new interesting information I never knew,” she
lamented. The other subjects are Screenwriting
Craft and Cinema studies by Aloyo Annet, Cinematography and video editing by
Nkambo Robert and equally important.
Screenwriting Craft is
Achan’s favorite because she believes it has helped her change the narrative
when it comes to storytelling. “Am always excited every time I go for class, and
look forward to the next” Achan added.
Eunice revealed that
through this course she is mentoring 7 aspiring young filmmakers in Kitgum, who
don’t have access to a smart phone.
“I encourage fellow
filmmakers in Uganda to look up for similar programs and put culture at the
forefront when doing their work. For those in the training, I challenge them to
use the skills and knowledge we are getting to make a different in the film
industry.”
“I commend UNESCO for
supporting us to attend such an important course. I thank the tutors for the time and effort. I
wish this program could be extended to support the best students continue
learning under a diploma program, so that they may become the next film
trainers in the country.
