Kampala, 4 August - Sixty-three days have elapsed since Uganda Film Festival (UFF) marked its special 10th anniversary held at the Uganda Institute of Communication and Technology in Nakawa, Kampala in June 2023 with the generous support of its partners and sponsors.
For Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) represented by its
acting Executive Director, Irene Kaggwa, the timing was appropriate to say
‘Thank You’ to all its stakeholders that contributed towards the success of the
special 10th Edition of the Uganda Film Festival Awards Gala Night 2023. Hence the organization of the UFF 2023
Sponsors’ Appreciation Breakfast organized on 4 August 2023 at UCC House
Bugolobi in Kampala.
Irene Kaggwa, the acting Executive director |
Irene Kaggwa reaffirmed the need for enhanced collaboration
and synergy among all stakeholders to close the country’s multimedia
infrastructure gap so that the audio-visual sector can successfully meet the
international standard.
Guests invited to the breakfast included Philip
Luswata, a lecturer in the theatre and film at Makerere University and an
experienced arts development and interactive communications professional with
over twenty years’ experience. He encouraged
young people to be able to create their own cast of characters and tell their
own stories about life in their community.
A total of 5,052 film stakeholders have so far been trained
across the country in different fields of film production through the UFF
program. Mediavision Academy (MVA) has leveraged
its considerable expertise in Film, Television and Radio training in supporting
Uganda Communications Commission’s training programs and short courses.
Julianne R. Mweheire, UCC’s Director in charge of Industry
Affairs and Content Development, informed the audience that
3,016 films have participated in the Uganda Film Festival since 2013 and 71
films have won at international festivals out of 173 nominations. Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA)
2023 Uganda had the highest nominations (17) on the continent.
Some of the partners and sponsors who attended the meeting |
UCC took up the mandate of developing the film industry and since 2013. It is now 10 year and the outcomes are evident. MEDIAVISION ACADEMY is glad to be part of this journey in capacity building.
