Internship program - Creating jobs today by making investments in the youths to shape their future

“Holding and using a digital camera was a great experience of my life” declared Kumbonyaki Christo, a film production art student in his first semester at Mediavision Academy.  Students have to undertake, as a requirement, a one-year internship in the field, during which they are regularly monitored and assessed.

Christo, 22, is from South Sudan.  He attended Uganda Martyrs High School in Lubaga, Kampala where he acquired an Advanced Certificate in Education.  Inspired by his own brother who is in the field of multimedia and information technology, Christo joined Mediavision Academy in August 2022 after a long Google search of best film schools in Uganda.

The Republic of South Sudan became the world’s newest nation and Africa’s 55th country on July 9, 2011. Renewed conflicts in December 2013 and July 2016 have undermined the development gains achieved since independence and worsened the humanitarian situation. As a consequence, South Sudan remains severely impacted fragility, economic stagnation, and instability a decade after independence. Poverty is ubiquitous and is being reinforced by ongoing intercommunal conflict, displacement, and external shocks.

“As a young nation, my skills in film production art will be of great impact in the development of my country in the near future,” Christo said.  In addition, film production art will help create times and situations in which stories of unity, reconciliation, development, and social cohesion as national priorities will be told.

Mediavision Academy teaches script writing, camera work and production skills. “The growing need for professional scriptwriters in the commercial, arts and entertainment sectors is expanding rapidly alongside the social media, film, gaming and TV industries,” Christo emphasized. “From scene construction to character building,” he continued, screenwriting specialists are challenged to find innovative ways to build narratives and engage new audiences.”

Christo started his internship program on 13 December 2022 at the Mediavision Academy.  He has embarked on activities on both the technical aspects of shooting and scripting films, while at the same time gaining personal skills in working in teams, planning objectives and meeting deadlines.

“Before joining the Academy, I was ignorant about the behind the scenes that helped me discover the secrets of movie-making,” Christo revealed. “Having mastered scripting films, my internship program just pulled at me because of my involvement in seven students’ school projects on production of short films and the impact it has had on me throughout the first semester”.

Success of the Academy comes from the accomplishment of our students.  Since 2014, Mediavision Academy has and is still tirelessly working to shape the future of the youth through hands-on training for our communities, country and beyond.
