The MANIA Red Carpet Movie Premiere: A symbol of our continuous and renewed commitment for the promotion of Ugandan films

On Friday 11 November 2022, the newly-established film production house Afriwood Studioz unrolled what has been cited as the inaugural maiden feature film – Mania and red carpet proceeding at the National Theatre in the Ugandan’s capital city, Kampala. 

The public turned out in force to witness the release in the cinemas of the feature film driven by obsession and mental disorder, which is portrayed through the manic character of Caren, one of the main characters, and hence, the title of Mania.  Directed by Samuel Savoir Kizito, the multi-award-winning Ugandan filmmaker who is also the founder of Kyooto (Kyooto Media Group), the film is already the subject of many comments, both for its cinematographic quality and its teaching virtues.

At the Mania premiere, Grace Genevieve Tusiime and Angel Toni Acer -- who have both co-produced the feature film -- have now realized that they are writing a new chapter in the Ugandan Film Industry.  “Isn’t this a wonderful evening for Afriwood Studioz and the Ugandan public?” Genevieve said emotionally as she could happily see how the onlookers lined the walkway outside the National Theatre to enjoy the memorable and soothing moment with them.

 

Mediavision Academy deployed its photography team at the National Theatre to provide unprecedented coverage of the event and turned – with their camera bulbs flashed – the evening into brilliance brighter than noonday. 

Ragga Dee, born Daniel Kazibwe, a Ugandan musician, politician, and Chairman of the National Cultural Forum, praised the infectious energy and enthusiasm of the audience and revealed that; “Forum is going to support the film that was premiered at the event to get on the YOTV Channels to ensure that viewers have access with the lowest price and highest quality via their smart phones”.  He then added that “all funds raised will go toward our film production house’s efforts to make its production project and distribution sustainable in the longer term.”

The 400-seat National Theater was filled beyond capacity, tickets were sold out and even the people who had them were seen standing on the alleys of the theatre since seats were all occupied. “I was overwhelmed by a huge turnout which I had taken a long time without seeing in the screening of local films,” Mediavision Academy Director said.  “Our support to the success of the said event is a symbol of our continuous and renewed commitment for the promotion of the Ugandan films”.
