Nsambya, Uganda – 18 November 2022 - “By the power vested in me and according to the Business, Technical, Vocational Education and Training act (BTVET) 2008, I hereby confer upon Zalwango Samalie a Certificate in Photography Studies.  Congratulations!” Ms. Milly Nabankema, Coordinator Worker’s Practically Acquired Skills at the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT), said softly as she was awarding the paper to the ‘2022 Best Student.’

For eight (8) years of providing quality training, Mediavision Academy is continuing its journey along the path it has traced out for itself towards shaping the future of the youths in areas of: Film, Photography, and Video. The Academy held its second graduation ceremony with the theme “Shaping the Future of the Youths” on Friday 18 November 2022 in the Academy’s grounds. 

Present in the occasion were Ms. Milly Nabankema who represented the DIT Director, Ms. Nkoba Lorraine from the Private Sector Foundation – Uganda, Mr. Moses Mutagubya, Local Council I Chairman of the Mubiru Zone, Mr. Mathias Nyombi of YOTV Channels, the Officer Commander Yona Byegyage of Nsambya Police Station, Dr. Ssemakula Joseph and Dan Muliika, Chairperson and Member of the Board of Governors of the Academy respectively. Parents and guardians of the graduates as well as representatives from the Film Fraternity attended the ceremony.

               Dr. Ssemakula Joseph, Nkoba Lorraine, Ms. Milly Nabankema and Dan Muliika                                                                                                                                                                                                               As the Academy celebrated its second congregation for the presentation of certificates, it is determined in producing competitive and quality graduates to contribute to “creating content that can lead to beneficial changes in behavior” emphasized Dr. Ssemakula Joseph who is a lecturer in the Department of Communication at the Uganda Martyrs University (UMU), a private University affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church in Uganda.

The ceremony started with the processional of the graduates together with officials of the Academy and the distinguished guests.  Robert Nkambo, Director of Mediavision Academy, opened the program through the opening remarks after the singing of the Uganda National Anthem, the Buganda Anthem - Ekitiibwa kya Buganda (Buganda's Pride) and prayer led by Mr. Aggrey Mugisha, YOTV Channels Chief Executive Officer.

As the program went on, the representatives from DIT, Private Sector Foundation – Uganda, LCI Chairman of the Mubiru Zone, the Chairman of the Board of Governors, and the Academy Director all delivered their messages to the graduates that they can use as they go through another challenge towards their dreams.  The Guest of Honor, Ms. Milly Nabankema, advised the graduates to maintain the continuous learning process.

Waswa Marvin Deo, alumnus of the Academy, set the tone with a moving account of his efforts to have turned his dream into reality after completing his training in Photography in 2017.  “I am now running my own business ‘Memory Hub Studios’, which has grown from a photography business service to a video and film production house with the continuous mentorship by the Academy Team.  He added that the film he wrote and produced entitled ‘Another Day of Hope and Dreams’ was nominated for Best Student Film at the 2022 Uganda Film Festival.

Next was the moment when the Director of Mediavision Academy presented the candidates for graduation, then, acknowledged by the Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the Academy, Dr. Ssemakula Joseph, and conferred by Ms. Milly Nabankema, the DIT Representative.
